« By the different researches of tools by different groups: Expression, Emakers, Software, Education and Learning, we think that Expression, Emakers and Software are technical tools, “ Can architecture be taught ” is a basic debate, and Learning is the way.

So we take the technical tools and made it a 3 dimensions cube for visualizing the links between the tools in the space. And we finally create a 3D form which define the knowledge. So we choose an entry point, and by learning different things we need to learn another subject. So it becomes a “learning path” in school, everyone has his own learning order and interests, but finally we arrive to have a same 3D knowledge form.

After that, we define five types of tools for the differents subjects in Expression, Emakers, Software and we try to find link between shape and space. For example the word “critic” can be use in a cafeteria in the reality. The five tools are: social, digital, human, robotic and big data.

With this principal operator, we gave a name to our school: H3, which means Head (Self management), Heart (Workshop), Hands (Experience).

Diagram #1

The 3D model is a cube, which has 1 face for the base and 5 faces represent the 5 topics: Expression, Software, architecture Education, Emakers, Learning. In each topics there are their subparts.( for example : for Expression there are critic, Diagrams, human science, prosody and aesthetic.) The wool line inside link the different subparts and the etiquettes stuck on the wool represent the name of the links, like sonore, organization…

Diagram #2

In this model, we use a panty hose and we tie it with wool line and link to the subparts written on the faces on the boxes. After that we count the number of links of each parts and we pull the line more or less depending this. The 3D form can changes with any pull. »

« This is a conceptional model, an infinite cube with transparent axes. The different spaces in the school are represented by papers kraft with different colors, it can present different temporality and density with the model. But this model was critic as its rigid form, we are confuse for its concrete or abstract aspect. »

« After all these analysis, we want to come back with the LEARNING, and definite what is participating of the system of the learning in school, the internal parts and the external parts which help the system. We have 3 parts.

Self management :

First of all, we think that we have a part called Self management, which the student work by himself, by searching information for the project from the big data base.

Workshop :

Then we have a part called Workshop, which is a moment you can develop human capacities in group for being architect. For example, theatre (prosody), singing, drawing, sports. Theses activities can be did group work, there were interaction with others.

Experience :

Experience part which is very important, put the knowledge into practice. For example internship.

These 3 parts are the internal parameters of the system of learning for our school. And we have some external parameters which are like plug in, the material one, is the organization, association, stuff, BDE, partys…The immaterial one is social network, where studentcan talk, find someone to help, work together. »

School Principle -”Knitting”

For the school principle, we hope that we can offer the liberty to each student to choose and learn what they want and what they are interested in. So we think that the transformation of knitting can be use because it concist on choosing different colors and models of knitting to have at the end a result personal. So we plan a school principle which can purpose the students to have their own “learning journey”, that mean that everyone can choose what (subjects: history, art, physics…), when (no timetable imposed) and how (reading books, doing internship…) they want to learn. Since then, with the knowledge received by different tools, each student can construct his own learning journey.

We imagine that our school “H3” have an application on smartphone, every student can access and have his own page of identity, which records the level of the student, the projects he made, the differents skills’ level depending the 3 big activities: Self management, Workshop, Experience. With this application, we decide that the knowledge is not limited by the gate of the school, that mean in anywhere the student can improve his skills, he can go to pompidou’s library for searching books about history of architecture(Self management), he can go to another museum or another country for expositions, he can participate a dance Club in Paris… All this activities are noted on the application. So our school become a “cloud” which collect information from everywhere and save a big data base. Then, the school may disappear.

If the students can evolve their skills and knowledge out of the school. Why do we need to build a structure on the site?

So we did some research about the ressources of the city (library, media library, fablab, coworking places), and we think that they still have3some limits for the students of H architecture school, for example the schedule of each place is different, that can interrupt the working cycle, sometimes the ressources are not enough specify for architecture… So we think that the school in the site of Bois de Vincennes is needed, because it become a “patch” for Paris. The objectif is not only be given but also give. That mean our school is a big cloud which can use city’s ressources and can offer his own ressources. So H3 is a school which is half public and can give to citizen its knowledge.

Various versions of projects : Final version :

« Umbrella »

How to make a school move by temporality ?

In order to better reflect the project’s main characteristics: movable structure and changing ambiances, we have taken the umbrella model. The surrounding environment and the school are more closely fit with the form of the umbrella. With the change of seasons, through the control of opening and closing umbrella structure, we can create transformation of ambiances.
